On the Move!

Last week when we went into the doctor for Mya's 6 month check up, he said to try out "big people" food with her.  He said if one of us were eating a bagel, rip off a chunk and let her have some too!  We tried some watermelon this week, she wasn't sure what to do with it!  I think she liked the sweetness, but hasn't figured out how to manipulate small pieces yet!  Something to work on!

She does, however, continue to love baby food.  I made a big supply of baby food up a while back and she's been gobbling it up.  Sometimes the texture of a food is a little different than what she apparently likes so she'll make the gagging face.  BUT, we've found, if you add bananas to anything, she'll lap it up like a dog!  Not kidding, I've mixed bananas into her squash and peas!  What a gross combination, but she seems to like it!

Well, a couple months ago Mya faked us out with a tooth.  One was starting to come up, but then went back down.  Her doctor said that was normal.  This week she's been more clingy and fussy than usual and we discovered she has a tooth cutting through on the bottom.  She's pretty sensitive about it right now and doesn't like our fingers in her mouth to feel around, but this morning, we think, it's definitely cut through.  Poor kid!

Mya has been doing a lot of visiting lately.  She's been to the hospital tons of times to visit her Grampa Bruce.  We're happy to say that he's doing so well and will actually be released on Friday!

I started back at work on Thursday and so Grandma Pat watched Mya.  It sounds like they were busy girls!  The went to visit Mya's Great Grandma Ruth, as well as the Hull kids.  It also sounds like they went bumming around to Farm and Fleet and Menards!  No wonder she was so tired when she got home that night!

Mya has been in constant motion.  She's making the first steps in crawling.  She gets her heinie up in the air and moves her legs, but still hasn't quite figured out how the arms move along with it.  I'm thinking it's not going to be too long before she's mobile.  And just this morning she grabbed a Rubbermaid tote and pulled herself up on it.  Guess I'd better start strapping all of the furniture down to the floor!

And I'll leave you with my favorite picture of the moment.  I put her on the grass and she just started smiling.  This pose looks like it could be her senior picture down the road!

Six Months Old!

Today is Mya's very first half birthday!  6 months old?  No way!!  It only seems like yesterday that we were bringing her home from the hospital!

Here are some things you might want to know about our little pudge-a-roo!

*When she's tired and getting her last bottle of the night, she'll put her hands on her head.
*She's an expert at giving slobbery kisses!
*She laughs at the craziest things.  Sometimes nothing at all will make her laugh hysterically.
*When she's sitting, she rocks back and forth with so much force that she'll sometimes get onto her knees.
*She's as calm and mello as can be.
*She is a lover of food and we haven't found anything she doesn't particularly enjoy.
*She doesn't like heat and humidity and gets cranky if she's in it too long.
*She is a people watcher and loves other little kids.
*She likes music and will kick her legs and bounce around when she hears it.
*She is easily entertained with fingers and toes...yours or hers, it doesn't matter.

On Monday we had her 6 month check up.  She now weighs in at 17 pounds, 5 ounces (75-90th %ile) and is 27 inches long (90-95th %ile).  So, Mya continues to grow, grow, grow!  Mya has a new pediatrician and we met him for the first time yesterday.  He gave us a lot of great ideas...like it's okay for Mya to try regular milk and how to get her on a better sleeping pattern.

The before shot picture...
and the after with her battle wounds.

Amazingly, Mya did so well with her shots.  She cried as the needle went in, but then it was just a little whimper.  Almost like it was an attention-seeking cry.  She toughed it out, though!

Who Needs a Stinkin' Tub?

We plopped Mya in the sink for her nightly bath last night.  And shocker, it was a hit!  She sits up so well, so we thought we'd give it a shot.  I don't think it would matter where this kid bathed...she'd love it!

After we got her washed up, I turned the faucet on to see what she would do.  She was a little puzzled at first and then put her fingers in the stream of water.  What a little water baby!  I'm guessing that in just a short while we'll be dragging her away from the tub when it is bathtime!

A New Babysitter?

On Friday I went into school to get some last minute things done before the kidlets come on September 1st.  Mya spent the day with her Grandma Pat, cousins William, Nadya, and Tatiana.  Grandma Pat took some great pictures while I was away!  Tatiana is turning out to be a great little babysitter!!

She fed Mya some fruit...

gave her a bottle...

played with some toys with her...

and even changed her diaper!!

Thanks Tatiana (and Grandma Pat) for hanging out with Mya!

This is one of my newest favorite pictures!  Such beautiful little blonde hair, blue eyed girlies!!

My Little Neapolitan Ice Cream Baby

I'm getting so sad that Mya's growing out of her 3-6 month clothes!  Almost time to break out her 6-9 month totes of clothes!  It's been a hot and humid summer, but one night last week it got a little chilly so I broke out her long sleeved jammies.  I love her in this outfit because it reminds me of neapolitan ice cream!  But I can tell that she's growing out of them because her pudgy little toes are jammed down in the bottom of the feet compartment!

Mya's favorite toy (as of late) is her baby Eleanore.  I believe her actual name is Stella, but Auntie Beck came for a visit last weekend and called her Eleanore (as in Eleanore Rigby).  Mya laughs at her, grabs for her and chews on her.  I'm thinking she likes her because she looks a lot like Mya does...roly poly and bald!

Six Month Pictures

On Monday I took Mya in for her six month pictures.  She wasn't particularly smiley, but still managed to get some out!  She was more into the lights and, of course, chewing on her skirt!  I love the pictures in her green dress because I think she looks so grown up!

It's hard to see in the pictures, but she really does have hair!  I know, a stretch, right?  But it is actually fuzzy, especially after bathtime and I fluff it up with the brush!  Oh well, someday that hair will sprout!

A Week from You Know Where...

This was quite the eventful week...hence the reason the blog has been neglected since last Sunday!  My dad ended up being hit by a bicyclist, hit his head on the cement, and needed emergency surgery.  He ended up fracturing his skull and there was bleeding on the inside and outside of the brain.  He was in CCU for a few days, a step-down floor for a couple days, and now is on the rehabilitation floor at Sacred Heart Hospital.  He will be there until September 9th.

He is re-learning everything all over again.  His right side is weak and his speech has been impaired.  However, he has been making some amazing progress in the last few days.  Earlier in the week he would say one unidentifiable sentence over and over.  He hasn't been saying it as much and is now saying words we understand.  He communicates with us with small words, writing on paper, and writing letters in the air.  It will be a long journey for him, but he's a stubborn guy and I don't think he wants to be in the hopsital any longer than he has to!

Needless to say, this week has been quite the roller coaster.  I was MIA for a few days and so Greg and his family really helped me out a ton.

Mya spent a few days at her Grandma and Grandpa Telisak's house.  She got to play with her cousins Nadya and William.  I wonder what these two little girls will be like when Mya gets old enough!  Lots of dancing, twirling, and tutus, I'm sure!

I managed to get into school a couple days too.  Our school is not air conditioned and I picked the hottest, most humid day I could to go in!  Mya chilled out a little bit and then Greg brought her back home.  Just too hot for the babe!

And a few other fun ones for the week...

Mya looooves giving kisses!

Break on Through to the Other Side

So, I heard Mya squirming this morning around 1:30 in her crib.  I went into her room and this is how I found her...

What a little stinker!  She will seriously find any way that she can to see what's going on outside of her crib.

A Kink in the Chain

Mya's nighttime sleep schedule has been completely out of whack this week.  She's been up anywhere between 3-6 times a night.  I'm assuming that it is because of her teeth.  She'll wake up with an actual cry, which makes me think she's in pain.  In any case, it's been some rough nights and I'm just hoping things improve soon!

Mya has never been a really good napper.  She'll take four or five smaller naps throughout the day.  She is the type of baby who needs to be cuddled and rocked so that she's able to fall asleep.  But I know that when I go back to work in a few weeks, she won't get that same attention at daycare.  I'm trying to lay her down this week while she's kind of drowsy.  Yesterday she fell asleep on her own.  She spent about 10 or 15 minutes playing with her feet and the mesh siding on the side of the pack and play.  She only slept for 15 minutes, but she did it on her own.  Today hasn't gone so well, she's crying as I write this blog...

Mya must have discoverd her ears and her head or something, because she has learned to do this pose.  It's pretty cute.  At first I thought maybe she had some ear problems because she kept grazing her ears with her hands.  However, I think it's just because she has finally discovered them!

Yesterday Mya and I went to visit my friend Sara and her little girls Ella and Anya.  Anya was born two weeks before Mya and it was really fun to see how similar the girls are!  Sara and I were able to talk about a ton!  Ella seemed to like Mya too.  She asked if Mya could stay and Anya could go!  Poor baby Anya!  :)

Mya wouldn't have anything to do with getting her picture taken...she was smitten with Snoopy, the cat!

Catching Up

Well, this weekend started out with a visit from my mom!  I always love when she comes to visit!  We didn't have much of an agenda at all.  We went out to lunch, bummed around town a little bit, and then she watched Mya while I was able to do some organization.
Mya's been sitting up soooooo well now!  I can't believe how much longer she is able to sit on her own now, compared to last week!  Anywhere from 10-15 minutes!  I know she loves sitting independently so she can check out what's going on.  She'll tip over every now and then, but even when she does, she'll get a smile on her face!

Our weekend must have really tuckered her out!!

Mya and I ended coming back up to Eau Claire for a few days!  We're hoping to get some visiting in!  She thinks that sounds like a good idea!

My favorite picture...her blue eyes just make me melt!

This morning I put her down on the floor with some toys and went into the other room to do something.  When I came back in, she was "reading" "Are You My Mother"?  That was one of my favorite books growing up!  Mya takes an interest in books, which is great!  She looks at the pictures and smiles when I say verses, especially those in rhyme!  Gotta start her out young!
