Lazy Bones

Who needs to nap when you can play with your toes...

and pretend to be Superwoman?

Then, Mya got to be the laziest that I've ever seen her.  Instead of picking up her pacifier and putting it in her mouth, like normal babies do, she opened her mouth and picked it up with her mouth.  Kind of like bobbing for apples, only with a pacifier!  What a lazy lady! It was actually quite clever, because it worked.  She didn't have to use her hands at all!  The pictures below don't really help the story because it looks like she's using her hands to pick it up.  Oh well, I guess I'll have to be a bit quicker with the camera!!

Miss Independent

Yep, it's been confirmed.  Mya loves to sit up by herself.  It's amazing that just last week she was wobbly and if she went too far forward, she would just get stuck.  That is not the case this week!  We still sit by her for support because every now and again she'll get tipsy.  But, for the most part, she sits on her own independently.

She's been making baby steps toward crawling...uh oh!  As you can see, she scooches her butt up and will push with her legs.  She goes in circles, mostly, but this morning on her activity mat she flipped over, grabbed parts of the mat and started pulling herself with her hands and pushing with her feet.  It's all happening too soon...

Five Months Old!

Well, on Saturday our little love bug turned 5 months old!  She weighs in at 16 pounds, 6 ounces and is 26.5 inches long.

Mya is such an interesting little girl!  She is very focused and persistent.  She tries to do something (like pick up a toy) and won't stop until she has achieved the task.  She is interested in EVERYTHING going on around her.  Mya is entertained with her toys, especially ones that she can chew on!  It seems like she likes musical toys a lot too!  She rolls around like a crazy lady and has been working a lot on sitting by herself.  She can sit by herself from anywhere between 30-60 seconds!  She is trying to figure out the whole pre-crawling thing.  She gets her butt up in the air and pushes her legs so that she can sometimes scoot around.  Mya hasn't quite figured out the arms involvement yet, but I'm thinking she will fairly quickly!  She is in love with her fingers and toes and finds amusement in the simple things, like the handle on a dresser or the polka dots on her crib sheet.  She is so happy and mellow!  She doesn't get worked up about too many things, unless it's her elbow being dislocated!

Her best time of the day is right after she wakes up in the morning.  She is soooo smiley and still a little cuddly.  She still loves to be held and rocked, especially at nighttime.

Mya is loving eating baby food!  We've introduced so many to her and haven't found one she absolutely detests.  In fact, I think her favorites right now are veggies (carrots and peas).  We still give her oatmeal cereal mixed with a fruit in the morning and then a veggie mixed with rice cereal in the evening.  Yum, yum!

Where would we be without our little Mya?  We love her so much!

Mya and the Trampoline

I thought about naming this blog post Mya and the Tramp, but after thinking about it I figured it better be Trampoline!

Anyway, Mya went on her first trampoline bounce up at the lake.  It was my brother who suggested she go on it.  I was leery about it, but Mya LOVED it!  We put her on our laps and someone bounced next to us, enough so we got some pretty good air.  She laughed hysterically!  They were solid belly laughs and she had the biggest smile on her face while we were bouncing.  A trampoline is one of those things that is fun at someone else's house!  Mya better not expect to see one of those puppies in our backyard anytime soon!

The Sand Bumbo

Friday was an absolutely gorgeous day!  It was hot and sticky in town, but up at the lake it was warm and windy.  We took full advantage of the day by hanging out in the sun and down by the lake all day long!  Mya was tuckered out by all of the fresh air and took a 2 hour nap!  Hooray for 2 hour naps!

Cassie, Ethan, and Cameron came down to hang out with us for a while too.  Mya floated along with Cassie.  She's smitten with her!  Mya's new thing is that she loves to touch people's faces; very tactile kid!

Mya likes her Bumbo chair, especially when she's put on a table or something that's eye level with everyone else.  She's so nosey and prefers to be right in the middle of all the action!  Anyway, Cassie crafted the newest and greatest invention...the Sand Bumbo.  It worked like a charm!  Of course, Mya was more interested in taking it apart, but all-in-all, it served it's purpose!

We had a great time with Cassie and the kids and went and had dinner with Lisa and Blaine.  Noah even came up and so did my Auntie Beck and Uncle Doug.  It was the perfect day!

Lovin' the Sun!

Wednesday was the most beautiful day!  We spent the ENTIRE day outside.  Mya played in the sand and splashed in the water.  We once again put her in her floaty and she scooted along the shoreline.  There is nothing more wonderful than being able to spend time at a place where I have so many memories of.  I grew up on that lake and now Mya has that same opportunity to ski, play, boat, and relax up there.

Little Water Baby

Oh the fun water toys they have out there for kids! Today we blew up Mya's floaty and gave it a whirl. She LOVED it! Mya's always been a big fan of baths and the lake is like one giant bathtub. The lake water has been nice and warm and so we figured it was a good time to try it out! She was instantly enthralled by the water. She watched it very carefully.
She also figured out that if she is close to shore and her feet hit the sand, she can move really fast. I might need to tie a rope around her floaty to keep her from getting away!

All of Mya's water activities must have tuckered her out because she took a 2 hour nap on Grampa Bruce! It was quite nice because it gave my mom and I a chance to sit in the sun for a bit!

Sandy Stories

Mya tested out the sand since we've been up at the cabin. It's a hit! She sat in it and wiggled her little hands and feet in it. We tried taking a ton of pictures, but she was only interested in the sand and wasn't about to strike a pose! She is a true kid and already tried eating the sand. Nummy!

We also put her in the lake for the first time! I couldn't tell if she liked the sand or the water more! When I gave her a bath that night there was sand in all of her rolls!

Poor Mya has been teething away and just hasn't been herself. On this particular day she was cranky and tired. She would just start crying for no apparent reason, other than her teeth probably bothering her. The only good thing to come out of it was that she was a little cuddle bug.

Fun on the Farm!

On Saturday, Mya and I went out to my aunt and uncle's farm for a fun family get-together. We ate way too much food and enjoyed each other's company.

I put Mya in the grass for the first time and she wasn't quite sure what to think about it! In fact, she stuck her legs straight out, making sure they didn't hit the grass! Her little hands were grabbing away, but she wasn't going to have it touch her legs!

Uncle Doug brought out the tractors again for the kids and Mya got her first ride on the official parade wagon with me and Cassie. She sure does love Cassie!

It got pretty hot and sticky out, so Mya and her buddy Bronwyn got to take a bath in a Rubbermaid tub! Mya was splashing around in the water and even chewed on Bronwyn's feet! It was a great way to cool off!

No, Mya didn't actually drink any Leinie's, but she seemed bound and determined to try! I think the coolness of the bottle felt really good on her sore, teething gums.

Mya and I got our photo op in front of the gorgeous sunflowers. However, Mya was distracted by the sunflowers so much that she never really looked at the camera. She kept grabbing at the sunflowers and they seemed to get in the way! We had so much fun at the farm and can't wait for our next visit!

Uh Oh!

Poor little Mya. Last night Greg was changing her diaper and rolled her over. Only her fat little arm got stuck under her. I heard a pop and she started crying hysterically. Cries that I've never heard come from her before. She was waving her right arm frantically, but wasn't moving her left arm much at all. The decision was made to head into the E.R. to get it checked out. Mya's elbow actually was dislocated. The E.R. doctor said it's a very common thing, called Nursemaid's Elbow, among babies. He popped her elbow back into place and almost instantly she stopped crying and began moving her arm around. He reassured us that we aren't bad parents and this happens more than people think...but I still felt horrible about it.

Thankfully Mya won't remember her first trip to the emergency room. She is perfectly happy this morning and playing and rolling around like normal! Thank goodness!

The Green Bean Experiment

We worked our way through carrots, sweet potatoes, and squash and tonight we moved onto green beans! Mya ALWAYS gags or makes a face of distaste the first couple bites (even if it's a favorite food of hers) and she of course did that. But, the green beans stayed down and I consider that a success!

Immediately after the first bite...

let the gagging begin...

and the finished product.

She's a messy eater and usually needs to be doused after a meal! We'll do another round of green beans tomorrow and then move onto peas...yuck!

Chomp, Chomp!

Today we went to La Crosse for a little bit and ended up going to lunch at Olive Garden. Mya has been chewing on fingers like crazy the last few days and when I put my finger in her mouth I noticed a bump. When I took a peek inside her mouth, I saw a little white bump and the tip of her first tooth pushing through!! Mya's getting her first tooth, hooray!!

I figured it would take a while for a tooth to appear, but we knew she's been teething. There's been drool...tons of drool, she's been chewing on EVERYTHING, she's had a runny nose, etc. And she's been in a pretty good mood lately, not cranky like I assumed a baby might get with a tooth pushing up.

We stopped to pick up some Baby Orajel on the way home and I'm going to put some of her teether toys in the freezer to help her out.
She's getting so old already!

I pulled out the camera today after Mya woke up from her afternoon nap. She's such a little ham! My favorite picture is the last one because, as you'll see, the background is still, it's just the object (Mya) that is blurry. Why am I not shocked? This kid is in CONSTANT motion!!

Who's "That" Baby?

Ahhh. There's nothing quite like cheap entertainment! One day last week I took Mya into her room to change her and she noticed herself in the mirror outside her room. She smiles, laughs, coos, talks and reaches out to "that" baby. I wonder if she realizes it is her or if she thinks it's another baby!
