Greg and I had a fantastic time on our trip out east! Here's our vacation in pictures!
Day 1: Drove to Indiana and hung out at some sand dunes on Lake Michigan. The sand dunes were beautiful and very hot on the feet!
Day 2: Drove to Ohio and to the Football Hall of Fame...per my request. It was amazing to see so much memorabilia...I particularly liked the Packers "stuff." Also on display was a de-activation report from the Vikings. It was the first time in about a bazillion years that Brett Favre didn't play in a consecutive game.
We stayed at a really classy hotel that night...it's all Greg's fault. Let's just say that we stayed in really nice places from that day on.
Day 3: Drove and drove and drove. We came across the Flight 93 memorial in Shanksville, PA. The plane crash landed where the boulder is at the end of this field. A sobering reminder of 9/11.
Day 4: We spent all day at Gettysburg. The museum was enormous and amazing. Greg was in heaven.
We also did a driving tour of the battlefield. There are tons of statues and things along the way.
Day 5: We got our first taste of Washington D.C. with the Museum of Natural History. We agreed that Mya would have loved the animals wing!
Yep, that's THE Hope Diamond!
The day was pretty cloudy and rainy. It settled into a mist later on and we ventured down to the Capital.
We also went to Ford's Theater (where Lincoln was shot) and then across the street to the Peterson House (where Lincoln died).
Day 6: We literally did the walking tour of Washington D.C. today! We hit up all the monuments on the Washington Mall. We also trekked it up to Arlington National Cemetery. We probably put on a good 7 miles today!
Day 7: We went to George Washington's home, Mount Vernon, in Virginia. I was amazed at how many features in the home are original to it. It was a beautiful property.
Day 8: We stayed with our friends, the Hardt family, in Delaware. It's only about a 30 minute drive from there to Philadelphia. So, one day we headed there to check out some of the city's historical offerings.
We also took in a Brewers/Phillies game while we were out there. We had UH-mazing seats (about 12 rows back behind the Phillies dugout). The Brewers blew the game, but we had a fantastic time...minus the heckling that I got from Phillies fans.
The next couple of days we just drove home. It was a long trip and the drive home seemed endless. We had such a great time and really took in so much! I was sooooo anxious to get back to Mya, though. She was super excited to see us...just melted my heart. She screamed when she saw us and literally jumped off the stairs into Greg's arms. That old saying is true...there's no place like home!
