Picnics

When my brother and I were little, my Grandpa Virgil made us a picnic table.  It is the perfect size for kids.  For a few years I used it in my classroom for my students to read at.  Last summer I brought it home in anticipation of Mya being able to use it.  Well, that time has come!

On Saturday Greg worked on staining some trim on the deck and I cleaned out the porch.  Once it was all cleaned out, I plunked Mya down at the picnic table and she loved it!  She kept swinging her little legs back and forth and chattering away.  She even had some lunch out there!

It's really special to me to see Mya using things that I used when I was a little girl.  Especially things that have been made by family.

Did you know that Davy Crockett rode horses and texted on the phone?  Yeah, we didn't either...

15 Month Check-Up

Yesterday was Mya's 15 month check-up.  Mya played with some of the toys in the waiting room and munched on some Goldfish.

She was all smiles and giggles when we got into the room.

She was completely fine being measured and weighed by the nurse, and was fine when Dr. Severson came into the room.  But, once he took a step toward her she started screaming!  I literally had to restrain her just so that he could look at her throat and ears!  It was a good thing we had her appointment because we learned that Mya has another double ear infection.  One ear was definitely red and the other was starting to turn yellow because of puss (GROSS!).  We can usually tell when she has ear infections because she tugs at her ears and will cry out during the night.  She woke up a couple nights ago and cried out, but went back to sleep.  She's been perfectly content and we had no indication that she was having pain.  Poor girl!

She weighed in at 22 lbs., 3 oz. (25th-50th %ile) and is 31 1/2 inches long (75th-90th %ile).  I love getting the statistics because I think it's pretty neat to see how she's growing and developing.  To me, she doesn't seem long, but I guess she is!  Mya got three shots again this time...so much fun.  She cried, of course, and then once I could pick her up, she just snuggled into my arms and calmed right down.  I don't blame her...who wants to get three shots in their legs?

We chatted about Mya's development and it looks like she's right on track.  He asked if she's using eating utensils and a toothbrush, and she is.  He said that she'll be transitioning into one nap a day.  At daycare she'll do one nap, but at home there is usually a morning and an afternoon nap.  All-in-all, Mya's doing quite well and she's a happy, healthy girl!

The funniest part was that when we were walking out of the exam room, Dr. Severson was right behind us and Mya didn't notice until he said something.  Almost immediately she started crying!  You can't tell me that kids don't know what they are getting themselves into at the doctor's office!

Monkey Butt

Well, we'd better batten down the hatches because Mya has figured out how to climb up onto her rocking horse.  Lovely.

Heaven only knows what else she's going to be getting into...

And finally, little kids with chubby legs are just the best!

15 Months Old!

Mya turns 15 months old today!  Can you believe it???  She's such a toddler now...nothing baby about this girl!

Words she says: mama, dada, dog, night-night, buh bye, yellow, uh oh, out

Favorite foods: mac and cheese (duh!), hot dogs, brats, corn on the cob, meatloaf, any fruit, pickles, pancakes, chicken nuggets, grilled cheese...this list could seriously go on and on!

What she knows:  Mya can follow directions really well...well, for a 15 month old.  She knows to throw things away when I ask, as well as to put her shoes away.  When asked if she wants to go night-night, she goes right to her crib.  She'll also wave bye bye to us when we lay her down.  She can point to her tummy, nose, ears, head, and teeth when asked.  She has some rhythm and likes to bounce/sway to music.  She knows how to use a fork and spoon, but sometimes the good ol' hands are the way to go!  She also knows how to give Eskimo kisses...thanks, Grama!

Favorite things: her nuk, fuzzy blankets, baby dolls, balls, reading books, standing on her rocking chair

Mya has her moments and will throw a tantrum over nothing at all.  She HATES leaving daycare and usually cries (which is good because she obviously loves it there).  She sometimes hits, but after being disciplined she becomes very cuddly...almost like she knows she was in the wrong.

Mya can be very focused when she wants to be.  She studies things and catches on very quickly.

Every day we are amazed at how she's turning out!  She keeps us entertained and on her toes.  So many times we sneak into her room once she's fallen asleep and marvel at how lucky we are to be her momma and dada!

A Fantastic Weekend!

Weekends are a wonderful thing, especially when we have visitors!  My mom came down to spend the weekend with me and Mya, as both Greg and my dad had to work.  We had a super duper fun time!  We did some shopping and went out to eat at our favorite local Mexican restaurant.  We even chowed down on some Dessert First cupcakes for my birthday!

Mya has always been a tummy sleeper, but lately she's been on her back with her arms above her head!
While shopping, I found this little backpack and put it on Mya.  She wore it around the store like it was meant for her!  It was so cute!  She likes wearing it around the house.  I put a baby doll in it and she couldn't see it, so she starting turning in circles...kind of like a dog chasing its tail.
She wore it everywhere...like when she mowed the grass and did some grilling.
I kept thinking that she was going off to Kindergarten or something!

Corn on the cob is about the only vegetable Mya will eat!  We're still trying others, but corn is definitely her fav!

Mya and Grama!
We went to the park Sunday morning and had a great time!  Mya certainly is as independent as they come.  She didn't want help getting up or going down the slides.  It was fun watching her!

My mom took Mya down to the lake to rinse off her sandals and she kept kicking her legs and splashing in the water!  She seemed to enjoy it and hopefully it's foreshadowing what is to come this summer!  We'll be spending a lot of time in the water, that's for sure!!!

Give Momma a Kiss

We've been doing some painting in our bedrooms and hallway and so the photo of Greg and me from our wedding needed to come down.  I asked Mya for a kiss.  She ran over to the picture and gave the Momma in the picture a kiss.  Then I asked her to do it again so that I could catch it with the camera!

Brush Your Toofers!

Mya's future dentist will be proud...she brushes her teeth every morning and night.  And you know she enjoys brushing her teeth when I can use that as a bribe to get out of her high chair!  She's really good about giving us the brush first and we'll scrub a little.  Then she'll work on it for a couple minutes.  It's so cute how she does the brushing motion and all!

What is the obsession with shoes?  Last night she climbed in Greg's and tried to walk around.  Kind of reminded me of Bozo the clown.

I certainly hope Mya isn't turning into a klepto...I'd prefer to call it exploring and being interested in things!
Here she is trying to steal the deck frog...

...and finding some flowers to give to Momma...

...and still some more flowers...

...and we cannot forget about those good ol' pinecones!
